CAICT Introduces the Telecommunications Universal Service Support Platform at the 2018 National Work Teleconference on Telecommunications Universal Services  

  On the morning of July 6, the National Work Teleconference on Telecommunications Universal Services was held by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT). Chen Zhaoxiong, Vice Minister of MIIT, addressed the meeting, and Wen Ku, Director General of Information and Communication Development of MIIT, presided over the meeting.

  Chen Zhaoxiong said that accelerating the deployment of telecommunications universal services and deepening the construction of network infrastructure is of great significance for further lowering Internet prices and elevating connection speeds, accelerating informationization, building a modern economic system of high-quality development, eliminating the digital divide, and wining the fight against poverty. He fully affirmed the achievements of work on telecommunications universal services, and raised four requirements for the next step: (1) raising political awareness and proactively assume responsibility; (2) persisting in strict work style and strengthening project management; (3) strictly abiding by the rules of discipline and standardizing the management of funds; (4) strengthening forward-looking layout and popularizing application.

  The meeting listened to the speeches of the China Academy of Information and Communication Technology, Tibet, Hubei, and Guizhou Communications Administrations, Chongqing Economic and Information Technology Commission, and four telecommunications companies. Li Yong, Vice President of CAICT, introduced on behalf of CAICT, the telecommunication universal service support platform developed and deployed by the Technology and Standards Research Institute. The introduction covered the progress of pilot projects monitored by the platform, user connection speed, broadband use, operator development, broadband access in poor villages, as well as MIIT-designated poverty alleviation counties and contiguous poverty alleviation counties.

  CAICT will further upgrade the platform by expanding the capacity, addressing targeted poverty alleviation, and beefing up the basic data, so that the platform can play an important role in advancing the pilot of universal services and serving targeted poverty alleviation, added by Li Yong.
